Retraining as a skilled metalworker

Skilled metalworkers specializing in assembly technology are primarily employed in companies within the metal and electrical industries. They work wherever components are assembled into larger units or finished machines or products, for example in mechanical and plant engineering, the household appliance industry, or vehicle manufacturing.

The retraining program includes theoretical and practical training. It concludes with an examination administered by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).

Target group & requirements

• The retraining requirements of the respective requesting bodies must be met.
• Secondary school leaving certificate (Hauptschulabschluss/Realschulabschluss)
• technical understanding and professional experience
• good German skills, both spoken and written

Goals

Upon successful completion of the training, participants are qualified to take up employment as a skilled metalworker.

Content & Services

• Theoretical and practical instruction as well as vocational school instruction at BWNW
• Placement in a 6-week work placement
• Preparation for the final examination before the Chamber of Industry and Commerce [IHK]

The content of the lessons includes, among other things...

• Occupational safety and accident prevention regulations
• environmental protection
• Assembling and disassembling components into subassemblies and subassemblies into machines or complete products
• Manufacturing components and assemblies using various joining techniques
• Testing and adjusting functions on assemblies or complete products
• Monitoring and optimizing assembly and disassembly processes
• Manual and machine-based manufacturing of components
• Assembly of cables, electrical and electronic components
• Applying circuit and functional diagrams of various systems
• Implementing quality assurance measures

Duration & Course

The retraining program lasts 16 months. The start date depends on the final exam dates and is usually at the beginning of March or October, but can also be arranged individually in special cases.

Financial support

The retraining is a further education measure approved according to AZAV and can be funded via an education voucher from the employment agencies or a job center.

Interested parties should therefore coordinate their entry into the retraining program with the relevant agency responsible for their needs.
